FPNA Applauds Decision to Save Historic Sites

Early this year, Brown University reversed a plan to demolish five historic buildings on campus to make space for a new performing arts center. “Brown is very sensitive to the need to preserve the history and beauty of the Providence neighborhoods that Brown calls home,”said Brown architect Collete Creppell in the University's February announcement. The revised plan places the new arts center on a smaller plot, leaving the five buildings intact and moving another historic building in the process. The 1873 Sharpe house on Angell Street, home of the Brown University Department of History, will be moved to an adjacent block. FPNA applauds this decision as well as the considerable advocacy effor
